ABOUT NIMS
The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) is a premier institute and autonomous university in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
Initially, the institute was a single specialty orthopaedic hospital that was established by the Nizam’s Charitable Trust in December 1964. This hospital was taken over by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and renamed as the Nizam’s Institute of Orthopedics and Specialties (NIOS) in February 1976. This was converted to the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in March 1986 and was conferred University status on 18.06.1989 under State Act.
The institute is located in Punjagutta area at the prime center of the twin cities and spread over an area of about 23 acres (93,000 m²). It has the constructed area of more than seven lakh sq. ft. The Institute has bed strength of 1639 beds. The Institute is under the process of expanding the hospital through its Expansion project, adding 2400 more beds. The hospital caters its services for a population of 10 crores, mainly for the two states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh along with neighboring districts of Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
In addition to patient treatment, NIMS is committed to the cause of teaching, training, research and community level participation through camps.

ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION
The Department of Hospital Administration at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, was established in 1989 with the vision of creating trained professionals in hospital and health care management. It commenced its Post Graduate program with the M.D. in Hospital Administration in 1990 (Present – 5 seats per year), followed by the Master of Hospital Management (M.H.M.) in 2004 (Present – 20 seats per year), thereby becoming one of the pioneering centres in South India to offer structured academic training in this field.
The department is committed to imparting hands-on training to students in managing the day-to-day functioning of a modern hospital. The curriculum includes hospital planning, health care law, quality management, finance, human resources, and non-clinical systems, enabling graduates to take on leadership roles in both public and private institutions.
In addition to teaching, the department promotes research and consultancy in the areas of hospital operations, patient safety, and health system strengthening. Alumni of the department today serve in senior administrative capacities across India, in government hospitals, corporate chains, and academic institutions.
With a focus on innovation and service, the Department of Hospital Administration at NIMS continues to expand its scope, addressing emerging challenges in healthcare delivery while preparing the next generation of administrators for hospitals of tomorrow.

About Academy of Hospital Administration – Hyderabad Chapter
The Academy of Hospital Administration (AHA) has recently established its Hyderabad Chapter to strengthen professional engagement in hospital and healthcare administration. The Hyderabad Chapter has been created to cater to the growing needs of healthcare leaders, administrators, academicians, and management professionals across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, while also extending its academic and professional outreach to neighboring regions.
The chapter aims to serve as a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange, leadership development, and capacity building in healthcare management. Through academic programs, conferences, workshops, training sessions, and collaborative initiatives, the AHA Hyderabad Chapter seeks to promote best practices, ethical governance, quality improvement, and innovation in healthcare delivery systems. By fostering collaboration between public and private healthcare institutions, educational bodies, and policymakers, the chapter aspires to contribute meaningfully to strengthening health systems and improving patient-centered care in the region.
Mission OF AHA
To develop and maintain hospital & healthcare planning & designing parameters, quality training, consultancy and research activities in health and hospital system through active involvement of healthcare organizers and providers, in order to attain a leading role in continuously improving the performance of health care systems in the country.
